Good for Your Business and the Environment

Money in Your Pocket

Every time your business uses a solar hot water heating system, you put money in your pocket. By harnessing the free energy of the sun to preheat water for commercial use, many Canadian businesses can save money and contribute to a healthier environment and community. And by taking advantage of Natural Resources Canada’s Renewable Energy Deployment Initiative (REDI) program, those businesses can reap the benefits of solar energy sooner than they might expect.

Is There Solar in Your System?

Solar heating systems can be readily installed in new buildings or added to existing facilities. On sunny days, solar heaters can produce enough hot water for practically any application. Most of them are combined with a conventional boiler to ensure that hot water is available even when it’s overcast. There are several different types of solar collectors that can meet your energy needs (see column at right). All of them use simple, proven technology, and one of them will be ideal for you.

The most common type of solar collectors used in solar water heaters for medium- and high-temperature commercial water heating applications are glazed flat-plate collectors. Unglazed collectors are more common for low-temperature water heating applications.
