Since 1995, GS2000 has been used by HVAC professionals to size ground heat exchangers for ground-source heat pumps (earth energy systems, geothermal heat pumps, Geoexchange) in both commercial and residential systems.

The user can either input the monthly loads or use the simple residential load model. Simple menu-driven screens allow users to select or specify soil, anti-freeze, pipe properties and heat pump design information. GS2000 can then accurately predict the necessary heat exchanger size and the engineer or contractor can quickly make changes to the heat exchanger design and reduce installation costs. Measurement unit (inch-pound or metric) and language preferences (English or French) can be selected by the user.

GS2000 Version 2.0c is equipped with online help for quick reference.

Features include:
  • Capability to size both horizontal and vertical heat exchangers (including horizontal "slinky" arrangements and rectangular borefields)
  • Specification of the anti-freeze agent and the desired concentration for 5 pre-defined anti-freezes
  • Ability to calculate the piping pressure drop due to friction and fitting losses through the ground heat exchanger and building piping for circulation pump(s) sizing
  • Selection of 34 different pipes for the ground heat exchanger
  • Ground temperature data for 129 locations in the United States and Canada
  • Ability to model supplemental heat rejection equipment (e.g. cooling towers)
  • Selection of grout materials and multiple year and peak load analysis options
Operational Instructions:
  • GS2000 does not support European or other International settings
  • To ensure GS2000 performs as expected, the Microsoft Windows 'Regional Options' on your computer must be set to English (Canada or United States). To change the setting, in the Start Menu, select Control Panel, go to Regional and Language Options and then choose either English (Canada) or English (United States)
