Hydrogen & Fuel Cells | Demonstrations & Deployments

Hydrogen and fuel cell technologies represent a unique opportunity for Canada to reduce the transportation sector’s environmental footprint. As an emerging industry, there is still work to be done to commercialize these technologies and a key step in this process is demonstration and deployment.

CanmetENERGY demonstrates and evaluates fuelling options for a variety of on-road and off-road hydrogen-fuelled vehicles. Projects are developed and managed through cost-shared agreements and partnerships with industry, academia, provincial/territorial governments and other federal bodies. Activities build on the achievements of the Canadian Transportation and Fuel Cell Alliance (CTFCA). The CTFCA was a seven year program that developed and demonstrated hydrogen-fuelled vehicles and fuelling stations in real-world conditions across Canada. A number of CTFCA achievements are highlighted in the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Timeline.
